Re: best downsampling method for DSLR photographs
The downsizings of this very image found at http://web.cs.laurentian.ca/nrobidoux/misc/windmill/ are not enough? Nono... I mean that the brickwall image from Wikipedia is too blurry and not challenging at all for ImageMagick. Actually, any software failed on that image should be eliminated from Ear...

Re: best downsampling method for DSLR photographs
The photo "Moire_pattern_of_bricks.jpg" is too blurry (or is ImageMagick too capable?)
We need sharper patterns, such as the brick walls on "7640_CO40_FM1-175pct_sRGB.jpg".

Re: best downsampling method for DSLR photographs
As for upsize, tritical@doom9 has been maintaining an intra-field only deinterlacer which can be used as a video upsizer (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=147695). Re: best downsampling method for DSLR photographs
Do you mean "-quality 99% -sampling-factor 1:1:1" ? I was always thinking if there is any JPEG library which takes advantage of 16-bit input to produce higher quality output at a smaller size (just like x264's Hi10P). BTW, would you mind telling us the settings for JincJinc4Radius and Jinc...

Re: best downsampling method for DSLR photographs
but the windmill nobody likes the house bricks in the linear light version... I prefer the linear light version because it is really what I saw at six feet away from the screen showing the original photo at 1:1. And I actually hesitate calling the pattern "generated" by EWA-Catrom as &quo...

Any comment on EWA-Lagrange or EWA-SincSinc2?Pictus wrote:I am enjoying the sharpness of EWA Catrom, sadly it is not 100% moiré free as we can see in the backpack center strip and in the house wall.

No such problem if I download the png file and view it from my harddisk. It's weird.henrywho wrote:The colors in Jinc4Sharpest.png are completely wrong.

Re: best downsampling method for DSLR photographs
The colors in Jinc4Sharpest.png are completely wrong. What is the command you used?
I would categorize such coloration as a bug.

It is a sample photo I read from that website. So it's under their copyright. I think it is better to post the original URL and the processing command-lines, instead of the processed files.NicolasRobidoux wrote:@Henry: Could you let me know if it's OK that I posted these images? Re: best downsampling method for DSLR photographs
In linear light with this black point, the vertical stripes have values 0 0 0 0 0 1 4 9 16. In "sRGB" (remember that encoding uses the reciprocal of gamma), the values are 0 0 0 0 0 1 2 3 4. After pushing the shadow, those dark details are clipped as zero and lost (we do not have negative...

Re: best downsampling method for DSLR photographs
Which one? What you call JincJinc3 (which is the "improved" version of the current EWA LanczosSharp, with a blur barely below 1)? Over/strong-sharpening downsampler means EWA-Lagrange, not JincJincSharpest3 or 4. BTW, orthogonal box (odd integer ratio) downsizing of real life photos like ...

Re: best downsampling method for DSLR photographs
If you feel adventurous, could you please try EWA Sinc-windowed Sinc 2, 3 and 4 (which you need to drive using defines because ImageMagick silently swaps Jinc for Sinc with EWA unless you "hardwire Sinc")? Do you mean " ... -define filter:filter=Sinc -define filter:window=Sinc -defin...

Re: best downsampling method for DSLR photographs
Another interesting sample at http://www.dcfever.com/cameras/viewsamp ... cture=6978
The red grids on the robot's chest and the gold solder points on the PCB are de-colored which I suspect being an artifact of USM. Over-sharpening EWA downsample does not have this problem.
