Suggestion: "too low Quantum" warning
First thanks again to all you good people for providing and contributing to this great piece of software. I'd like to offer some small suggestion b/c even after rtfm'ing quite a lot got tricked by the various IM versions and think more verbosity on this might be helpful to us simple users: Some oper...

Re: Lanczos: Tensor, EWA, HDRI, Q, ugh?
You are welcome to make any documentation (or other development) suggestions you want. I realised that I wanted so much new documentation that it was easier to write it myself. Hence my website http://im.snibgo.com Thanks, I know the site and already got great snippets from it - thanks a lot, provi...

Re: Lanczos: Tensor, EWA, HDRI, Q, ugh?
4. With a Q8 IM build: Should/can I use linear light for tensor and/or EWA (i.e. -colorspace RGB -yadayadayada -colorspace sRGB)? For example, values from 0 to 28 (out of 255) get squished into just four values (being 0, 13, 22 and 28). This definitely is not what I want (or probably anyone). Unfor...

Lanczos: Tensor, EWA, HDRI, Q, ugh?
Simple /me is trying to downsize-sharpen my natural photography shots (so no test patterns here and some minor quirks won't show, but I do want fast performance for batch processing). After trying to rtfm I'm still left with a few question, I'd be delighted for some insight. 1. -filter Lanczos: I've...

Downsizing & sharpening: "while and/or after"?
I hope you people can help me with a problem that has been bugging me for years. I have been asking around in various photography forums to no real avail, probably the differences aren't that huge so many photogs don't really care ... but still. Do note that I tried to rtfm, but the information conc...

Re: Downsampling & HDRI builds
Thanks for your answers! However, if you want to try the IM 7 beta, I did try it now and then but came to the conclusion that until it's declared "replacement ready" for im6 scripts, it's too much hassle trying to figure out what im7 doesn't do like im6 so my scripts fail. I'm a big fan of...

Downsampling & HDRI builds
Reading the im docs it appears I need a hdri-enabled build to use the extended downsampling methods - it says "Remember to use HDRI with such -resize filters": http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/filter/nicolas/#downsample 1. The context of this warning isn't specific, is it just about Cosine...

Re: Transparency fallback color?
Thanks, good to know - though unfortunately Indesign doesn't recognize this set background color, I have to do "-alpha Remove" via IM.glennrp wrote:Try "-background white".

Transparency fallback color?
I'm generating transparent round corners with "-matte mask.mpc -compose DstIn" ... works fine in an image viewer on screen (tiff) and for the web (png). However, when I paste the same tiff into a layout software (InDesign) it insists on rendering the transparency *black* (even though the p...

Re: Non-Linear thumbnail resize?
You only need to make the mask once, for all photos of that size. But the displacement also needs Q16. Yeah, I'm already caching all masks I can when doing bulk operations - but a complicated convert still takes a lot of time. But it's worth it, IM gives me great results (though I am not up to comp...

Re: Non-Linear thumbnail resize?
My map is 16 bits/channel/pixel. Yours is only 8, so you have quantization (rounding) errors. Thanks, that's it - I was indeed using the Q8 version. I know it doesn't make much of a difference, but I don't want to use Q16 for everything because when processing thousands of images on a slow box ever...

Re: Non-Linear thumbnail resize?
The displacement idea looks great, but if I apply the above sample in a real world photo it shows strange artifacts (using latest im6)?
EDIT: solved.

Re: Non-Linear thumbnail resize?
More options were discussed when -liquid-rescale was first introduced and I am not sure anything happened. I doubt anything much will happen now for a while as the developers are working hard on version 7 Ok, I do hope v7 is progressing, seemed to be a bit suck when I last looked with all changes h...

Re: Non-Linear thumbnail resize?
What you want is -liquid-rescale although last time I looked the options were very limited. It would be nice to define with a mask ( like Gimp ) which areas can or canot be modified. Hmmyes, that's about it, but as you've said it's not very configurable. At least some parameter for the curve would ...

Non-Linear thumbnail resize?
I'm currently batch-resizing my 2:3 pictures to 1:1 thumbnails, thus cutting off a bit off the sides. What I'd like to do is do a non-linear squeeze by compressing the sides a bit, thus giving a bit more of an impression of the whole image w/o distorting the center. I see IM has the -distort paramet...
